Responsibilities

Columbia Management, an Ameriprise Financial company, is seeking an Investment Platform Salesperson to join the Platform Distribution/Strategic Relations team in Boston, MA.

Objective:

Increase Columbia Management sales through intermediary distributors by gaining and maintaining placement on research department discretionary and nondiscretionary platforms.

Process:

The platform placement process represents a guideline of the steps required to proactively identify opportunities and secure placement.


* Initiate relationships with each analyst within research departments at respective firms.

* Develop knowledge of each firm, the platforms and research process.

* Introduce Columbia Management.

* Identify platform opportunities.

* Present the Columbia Management solution.

* Follow-up.

* Service platform placements.

Responsibilities and Skills:


* The platform sales role and responsibilities require a well-rounded skill-set that includes investment subject matter expertise, the ability to articulate the salient points of an investment thesis to a sophisticated, institutional investor audience, and a willingness to deliver a high-level of productivity.

* Subject matter expertise: The platform sales person should cultivate investment knowledge by proactively studying investment industry content, actively participating in Columbia Management investment discussions and product trainings.

Cultivate an in-depth command of three broad subjects:


* Economics.

* Capital markets.

* Columbia Management investment strategies.

Relationship sales skills and responsibilities:

Strategic planning – Develop a strategic plan for each firm's research department. When relevant, partner with National Accounts to coordinate the overall firm strategy with the research platform strategy. Coordinating strategy with National Sales and National Accounts will maximize the value of nondiscretionary platform placements.

Tactical planning – Each quarter, establish an objective with each analyst within each firm that facilitates progress toward platform placement, and create an action plan to accomplish the goal within 90-days.

Activity – The platform sales person should execute a high level of sales activity to deepen relationships with each research department, diversify analyst network, identify platform opportunities, and progress through the platform placement process.

Required Qualifications


* Minimum of 5 years of related experience, preferably within an asset management organization.

* Demonstrated interest in the capital markets and understanding of the mutual fund research process.

* Track record of developing relationships with professional buyers to influence investment decisions.

* Experience analyzing mutual funds, and/or recommended lists & discretionary models, identifying opportunities and strategically positioning strategies to achieve platform placement.

* Bachelor's degree.

* FINRA registrations: Series 7/65 or ability to obtain within a designated time period.

* Preference will be given to candidates with a CFA designation or significant progress toward CFA designation.
